The Teagle Foundation Announces 3-Year, $300,000 Grant to YWMC

The Teagle Foundation’s grant initiatives aim to strengthen teaching and learning in the arts and sciences. To that end, it supports concrete changes in curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and faculty professional development that ultimately improve and enliven the educational experience of undergraduate students.

Grant Summary

$300,000 over 36 months to the Yes We Must Coalition, an organization of 32 independent, non-profit colleges and universities where Pell-eligible students constitute the majority of the undergraduate enrollment. Four members of the Coalition are participating in this project to embed the liberal arts in business education: Bacone College (Muskogee, OK); Coker College (Hartsville, SC); College of Saint Elizabeth (Morristown, NJ); and Keuka College (Keuka Park, NY). Beginning with a series of professional development activities, business and liberal arts faculty at each campus will work collaboratively to revise the business curriculum, with an eye to promoting the development of strong communication skills, creative and critical thinking, and a sophisticated understanding of how all endeavors in the workplace are rooted in particular social, economic, and cultural contexts. The campuses are targeting revisions to courses that are required for all business majors in both lower and upper division coursework. The campuses will also leverage existing curricular structures (e.g., required field study, block scheduling) to promote the integration of the liberal arts in business education.
